Last year I organised for Guardian columnists, co-authors and husband and wife, Polly Toynbee and David Walker spoke to a meeting of Enfield Southgate Labour Party.

They spoke to us about their most recent book ‘Dogma and Disarray – Cameron at Half-Time’, an in-depth look at the effect of the coalition’s policies so far. One of the most worrying findings of the book was that the impact of cuts to children’s budgets has led to a surge in child poverty levels.

Polly and David also spoke out how unequal Britain has become over the past few years. Creating a more equal society is one of the things that motivated me to join the Labour Party and the evening certainly gave me plenty of food for thought.
