I believe the most important part of the Labour party are the members and I’m always thinking about what we can do to strengthen our movement. That’s why two (check) years ago I helped to found a new group called Kurds for Labour.

The aim of the group is to build relationships with progressively minded individuals and to promote the aims and values of the Labour Party within the Kurdish community. The group also organises events and workshops to promote the work of Kurdish community centres and prominent thinkers and writers.

I organised the groups official launch reception in Parliament and was delighted to be joined by so many Labour members and MPs. Harriat Harman, Meg Munn, Andy Love, Diane Abbott, Siobhain Mcdonagh and Emily Thornberry all gave excellent speeches. We were also grateful that Ann Clywd, Mike Gapes, Stella Creasy and many more Labour MPs were able to attend as well. Some photos of the launch event are below and you can see more on my Flickr.
